ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta on Thursday appreciated the initiatives taken by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi for an efficient functioning of courts, noting that the measures have effectively resulted in the reduction of longstanding pendency.

Accompanied by Senior Vice President Muhammad Nadeem Qureshi and member Balochistan Bar Council Khalil Panezai, Mr Atta held a meeting with the CJP.

The meeting encapsulated discussions on a range of issues concerning the overall performance of judiciary.

The SCBA president also welcomed the meeting that the CJP held with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif the previous day aimed at focusing on judicial and law reforms necessary for establishing an efficient and effective judicial system.

He said these reforms are not only the need of the hour, but extremely essential for prompt dispensation of justice at the grassroots level.

He suggested that to make the most of such policies, consistency in their implementation is crucial.

Talking about the CJP’s scheduled meeting with a delegation of the opposition at his residence on Friday, Mr Atta termed this a thoughtful and positive step to foster political harmony, which is vital for economic and judicial progressiveness and restore the confidence of stakeholders and public at large in the judicial system.

The SCBA president reasserted his full confidence in and support for the CJP on behalf of his organisation and the entire legal fraternity, commending Justice Afridi’s efforts towards creating a robust judicial system aimed at improving overall effectiveness and efficiency.
