GUJRANWALA: Four workers of a steel re-rolling unit died and three others sustained severe burns when molten iron fell on them in the factory on Diwan Road, Eminabad, on Friday.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the incident occurred at the unit when molten iron accidentally spilled, leaving four workers, Wakil, Nadeem, Atif, and Saddam dead on the spot.

Three other workers, Javed, Zaheer, and Rasheed suffered severe burns. The molten iron also triggered a fire in the factory, but the Rescue 1122 teams acting promptly extinguished it. The bodies and injured workers were shifted to the hospital, where the condition of the survivors is said to be critical.

City Police Officer (CPO) Ayyaz Saleem said the police have launched an inquiry into the incident.
