LAHORE: Two matches were decided on the opening day of the 62nd Bank Alfalah National Polo Championship here at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Wednesday.

In the first match, BN/Newage Cables secured a thrilling 11-10 victory over HN Polo. Santiago Cernadas and Marcos Solari led the charge for BN/Newage Cables, scoring four goals each while Babar Naseem contributed two.

For HN Polo, Pelayo Berazadi scored five goals, Hamza Mawaz Khan three, and Ramiro Zavaleta and Haider Naseem one each.

The winners were leading 3-1 at one stage, before the losing side responded strongly in the second chukker to hit four goals to make it 4-4. They were again locked at 6-6 at the end of the third chukker.

In the fourth chukker, the winners again moved ahead to lead 10-7 but HN Polo again made a fine comeback to make it 10-10.

However, BN/Newage scored winner in the dying minutes of the fifth chukker to claim the thriller.

In the second match, FG Polo Edged past DS Polo in sudden death 5-4.

Raul Laplacette scored two goals for FG Polo while Nicolas Ruiz Guinazu, Raja Mikael Sami, and Mian Abbas Mukhtar added one each.

For DS Polo, Lao Abelenda scored three goals and Daniyal Sheikh netted one.
