HYDERABAD: Lawyers called off ongoing strike in courts on Wednesday and warned of marching on and laying siege to Chief Minister’s House if Hyderabad senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dr Farrukh Ali is not transferred.

The lawyers will stage a long march after the end of the 48 hours ultimatum starting from Thursday, according to Hyderabad District Bar Association (HDBA) president Ashar Majeed Khokhar.

He was speaking at an All Sindh Lawyers Convention held in auditorium of High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Hyderabad on Wednesday. Office-bearers of different district and taluka bar associations of the province attended the convention.

Ashar said that strike had been called off and normal work in courts would resume from Thursday because litigants had been suffering since this strike had started. The struggle had entered a new phase, which would begin after end of 48 hours ultimatum, he said.

He said that if SSP Dr Farrukh was not transferred in next 48 hours lawyers would stage a long march to lay a siege to Sindh Chief Minister’s House. A resolution would soon be issued in this regard, he said.

The speakers came down hard on Sindh police particularly the Hyderabad SSP in the wake of Feb 3 incident and his reposting in Hyderabad by Sindh police.

They raised slogans against Sindh home minster Zia Lanjar and his relative and his relative SSP Hyderabad and also shouted slogans against construction of six canals on Indus River.

Karachi Bar Association president Amir Warraich, Sindh Bar Council member Sajjad Chandio, Barrister Jawad Qureshi, HDBA general secretary Babar Memon, Khuda Bux Leghari and others also spoke at the convention.
