The Reunion

Those of us who grouse about the gross lack of films being made in Pakistan, well, here’s a slight bit of relief (call it good news, if you will). On Eid-ul-Azha, cine-goers will get a chance to see Mahira Khan and Humayun Saeed in a movie — back together on the silver screen for the first time since 2015’s Bin Roye. Directed by Nadeem Baig, penned by Vasay Chaudhry and shot mostly in London, the project’s title is Love Guru. We are guessing the name of the film has something to do with the presence of Humayun S in it. Or perhaps… Mahira K. Take your pick.
Matrimonial Matters

Behroz Sabzwari is opinionated. Fine. Who isn’t? The thing is, on certain matters his opinions can leave a bad taste in the mouth. Take, for example, his latest statement (which has caused quite a stir in some circles) that, in our society, spoiled women are responsible for the high rate of divorces. The thing is: while giving such statements, Behroz S should realise that his own son has been divorced. Therefore, people might infer that he is trying to hint at someone… or something. He should be experienced enough to know that.
When There’s Will…

Actor and rapper Will Smith appears to have slid out of his dark phase after the slapping episode at the Oscars a few years ago and his strained relationship with wife Jada Pinkett Smith. Last week, while performing in Miami with Spanish pop singer India Martinez, he came too close to the vocalist, way too close. But India M pushed him aside, only to turn and pull his face back close to hers, in what appeared to be a kiss. The steamy moment has given birth to the speculation that both are into each other. All we can say is that Will S is giving Fresh Prince vibes to us.
Separation Move?

Rumour has it that Indian actor Govinda’s wife Sunita Ahuja has filed for divorce from her husband of more than two decades. Apparently, separation papers had been sent months ago but, since then, there’s been a hiatus. Govinda has denied such reports claiming they are not true, and that he is busy working on his new films (new films? seriously?). Sources say, however, that although the actor is willing to reconcile, Sunita A is standing her ground. She wants a separation come what may. Let’s see whether Govinda is able to dance out of the predicament.
Death Do Us Part

On February 26, two-time Oscar-winner Gene Hackman (95) and his classical pianist wife Betsy Arakawa (63) were found dead in their Santa Fe home. By the time of filing this news item, investigations into the deaths were still going on. Reports suggest that on February 26, the police came to the gated community of Old Sunset Trail (where the couple lived), to investigate the “deaths of two elderly people.” It is said they had been alerted by someone who had found the front door of the house open. And they found the couple dead along with their dog. It is a strange incident. Gene Hackman was a much-celebrated actor who had worked in iconic movies such as The French Connection (1971) and Unforgiven (1992). He married Ms Arakawa in 1991. May they rest in peace.
Preity Praise

Once upon a time, there used to be an actress by the name of Preity Zinta. She acted in Bollywood films, then got married and disappeared, except for the odd appearance in support of the IPL cricket team she co-owns. Now she’s back in the news. For what? For praising controversial actress Kangana Ranaut on social media. Answering a question put to her by a fan about Kangana R, Preity Z replied, “Kangana is a fantastic actor and fashion icon. I haven’t seen her work as a director, but I believe she is a very good director.” Point to be noted: she hasn’t seen her work but believes she is very good. Tsk, tsk… your dimples can’t distract from every weird statement, Preity Z.
