DROWNS: A six-year-old boy drowned in a canal along the Charmari Road in Bannu on Friday.

A Rescue 1122 official said its divers retrieved the body from the Kachkot Canal in Ghari Shah Jehan area.

“The deceased was identified as Novyan Khan and his body was handed over to relatives after fulfilling formalities,” he said.

Meanwhile, owners of several brick kilns were fined for violating the minimum wage policy.

Lakki Marwat deputy commissioner Zeeshan Abdullah received complaints about non-implementation of minimum wage policy in the brick kilns, and tasked additional assistant commissioner Azmat Ali Afridi with checking the implementation of the relevant laws.

Mr Afridi paid surprise inspection visits to brick kilns in Khawjakhel and other areas. He also inspected the working environment and availability of facilities for labourers there.

The official came to know that the owners were not paying the government-notified minimum wage to their workers.

He fined the owners and warned them of stern legal action in case they continued violating the relevant laws.

The additional assistant commissioner also inspected Marwat lift and Khawjakhel canals and checked availability of water in them.
