QUETTA: A young girl and her mother were killed, while a minor boy was injured in an explosion inside a house near the Hazar Gangi area on the outskirts of the provincial capital, police said on Friday.

According to police, gas accumulated in the house of Humayun Khan due to a leak. When his wife lit a match to cook for Sehri, a powerful explosion took place.

The explosion caused the major part of the house to collapse, trapping and killing Mr Khan’s wife and young daughter under the rubble.

The minor boy was also injured in the blast and sustained burn injuries.

Police arrived at the scene and transported the bodies and the injured to the hospital.

Over the past week, gas leakage explosions have become increasingly common, with more than a dozen similar incidents reported across Quetta.
