THE world is celebrating the International Women’s Day today (March 8), and Pakistan is no exception. We have to remember the incredible contribution of Pakistani women, and we must highlight the challenges they still face in society.

There is no doubt that Pakistani women embody resilience. From rural areas to urban settings, women break barriers all the time. There are countless women who work tirelessly in various roles, like mothers, housewives, nurses, teachers and domestic workers. These unknown women deserve to be recognised for their contributions.

Limited access to education, fewer opportunities for growth, gender inequality, domestic violence and child marriages are some of the elements that affect women’s physical and mental health, and keep them away from financial independence.

With the dice being loaded so heavily against them, women have no option, but to break structural barriers.

No meaningful change is possible overnight. Only collective and consistent efforts will enable Pakistani women to create a better Pakistan where opport-unities and space for personal growth are available regardless of one’s gender. Let us work together and enhance women’s empowerment in our patriarchal society.
