PESHAWAR: Police officials have been directed to beef up security of markets in the provincial metropolis during the last days of Ramazan and on Eidul Fitr.

The directives were issued during a special meeting held at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines with Chief Capital Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Qasim Ali Khan in the chair. The meeting was meant to ensure security of densely populated markets during the last days of Ramazan and on Eidul Fitr.

During the meeting, the overall security and traffic arrangements of the city were reviewed. The meeting decided to conduct mock exercises and take practical steps to deal with any untoward incident in a better manner.

The CCPO directed police officials to conduct a fresh security audit of all sensitive and important places, places of worship and markets and prepare a security and traffic plan in light of the recommendations.

He said that the process of snap checking should be further intensified at special checkpoints and all entry and exit routes throughout the district. He directed officials to take special care during Iftar and Sehr times.

The CCPO said that a close watch should be kept on habitual criminals released from jail. He said that legal action should be further intensified against tenants residing illegally in the city.

He also directed police officials to make special security arrangements for their posts at night in the suburbs and utilise existing resources.

He reviewed security and traffic arrangements of commercial centres and densely populated markets and directed to further improve security and traffic arrangements. He instructed police officials to stay in touch with all administrative institutions including leaders of different schools of thought, business community and all sects.

The meeting was attended by SSP Masood Ahmed, chief traffic officer Haroon Rashid Khan, SSP Noor Jamal, SP Hameedullah and officers from other units.

Qasim Ali Khan said that police were utilising all resources to protect the lives and properties of citizens and maintain peace in the city.
