TROUBLE IN RAMAZAN: The province of Balochistan has been suffering from gas loadshedding for some time, but the issue has seriously escalated with the arrival of Ramazan. Moreover, the relevant authority has issued a schedule for gas availability, but even that schedule is not being followed. The sudden shift in weather has added to people’s problems. The alternative liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in cylinders is neither safe nor affordable. The government should resolve the issue as it would be one of the best gifts to the people during the holy month.

BAD TIMING: A government minister recently claimed that the prices of essential items had come down to the lowest level compared to the last few years. His announcement is a perfect example of bad timing. Right after the announcement, Ramazan began. And when that happens, the prices of daily items touch their peak regardless of the state of the national economy. The legislators, both federal and provincial, should make a daily visit to grocery markets along with media teams, and inquire about the prices of items from the people before making such tall claims.

SOCIAL MEDIA AND YOUTH: While social media platforms offer a variety of benefits, they also present several challenges. Many young people feel pressured to conform to unrealistic standards of beauty, success as well as happiness that are portrayed online. This leads to anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. Moreover, it often creates a false sense of companionship among people. The influence of social media on the behaviour of youth is another concern. On the positive side, social media can be a powerful tool for advocacy, education and connection. All stakeholders should ensure that our children are equipped with the tools and guidance that are needed to navigate social media responsibly.
