KARACHI: The Federal Ombudsman’s secretariat has directed the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) to ensure the timely payment of dues to retired faculty members and employees.

In a letter to the university’s vice chancellor, the Ombudsman’s office emphasised the need for timely realise of the dues and set a deadline of March 25 for compliance.

The directives came in relation to a complaint filed by Dr Auj-i-Kamal, a retired faculty member, and Masood Ahmed, who have been awaiting their pension and gratuity payments.

Retired faculty members have been protesting against non-payment of dues for a long time. However, despite a decision by the university’s syndicate and multiple reminders from the Ombudsman’s office the payments to the retirees have yet to be disbursed.
