CHINIOT: Lawyers across the district observed a strike against the registration of a case against two lawyers and others at Lalian police station on the instructions of Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Adeela Altaf.

The bar associations of Chiniot, Bhowana and Lalian staged a complete strike. As a result, litigants who had traveled from distant areas had to return without their cases being heard.

District Bar Association (DBA) Secretary Imtiaz Hussain Taj issued a strike notice. He said lawyers would keep on boycotting ADSJ Altaf’s court until the case was quashed.

The FIR was registered on March 14 against lawyers Sajjad Azam and Nasir, along with Kumail Shah and Amir Shahzad, and 20-25 unidentified people under various sections of the PPC. The case was lodged by Syed Turab Shah, a court reader, who alleged that the suspects disturbed court proceedings by engaging in a brawl outside the courtroom.

MURDER: A man shot dead his two sisters-in-law and injured his wife in an act of revenge for legal cases filed against him.

Rustam from Faisalabad had been married to Rubi for six years. The couple had two children. However, due to Rustam’s alleged immoral behaviour, Rubi left him and filed civil and family cases against him.

Late on Friday night, Rustam along with accomplices Manzoor Hussain and Muhammad Ahmad stormed his in-laws’ house in Mohallah Pooran Palad and opened fire. His wife was critically injured, while her sisters Sana and Shumaila were killed.

The attackers fled before police arrived.

A case has been registered and investigations are underway.

FIREWORKS: A house being used for illegal fireworks manufacturing collapsed following an explosion, killing one and injuring two others.

Ali Sher, of Bhutto Colony, Faisalabad Road, was reportedly making fireworks inside his home when the materials caught fire, triggering multiple explosions that lasted for five minutes.

The house caved in, trapping four people under the debris.

Rescue teams extinguished the fire and pulled out the victims. However, 35-year-old Ali Sher succumbed to his injuries, while Asif Anwar, 35, and Shahzad Zafar, 18, were rushed to the DHQ Hospital in a critical condition.

SHOT DEAD: A young man was shot dead in his home by two unidentified gunmen.

Nabeel was sitting with his father, Shakeel, and brother Azeem in their house in Mohallah Mushki Shah when two assailants arrived on a motorcycle. They barged into the house, opened fire on Nabeel, killing him on the spot.

City police registered a case on Shakeel’s complaint.
