DERA GHAZI KHAN: The Ghazi University hosted a two-day Sufi Conference to celebrate the timeless message of Sufism of peace, love and humanity.
The event, organised by Dr Rashida Qazi, Dr Asif, and r. Ayaz Ahmed, highlighted the cultural richness of the Seraiki region and its reverence for Sufi saints and scholars.
In his opening remarks Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ashfaq Ahmed emphasized the importance of Sufism in fostering harmony. Renowned scholar Dr Saleem Mazhar and Syed Naseeruddin Chiragh, the custodian of the shrine of Hazrat Khwaja Muhammad Yar Fareedi, delivered keynote speeches. The event featured sessions on prominent Sufi saints and poets, including Sultan Bahu, Sakhi Sarwar, Bahauddin Zakariya and Mast Tawakali, led by distinguished academics. A highlight of the first day was the Qawwali Night, featuring Sharafat Ali Khan, which captivated attendees with its spiritual fervour.
The final day focused on Hazrat Khwaja Ghulam Fareed with scholars exploring his poetry’s philosophical and linguistic significance. Dr Ashfaq Ahmed announced plans to establish a ‘language society’ to promote research and cultural exchanges.
