MANSEHRA: A notorious proclaimed offender, wanted by the police in dozens of cases of murder, attempted murder, highway robberies and extortion, was killed in an ‘encounter’ in Khaki area here on Sunday.

“Wanted outlaw and his accomplices opened fire on police when they raided their hideout. A stray bullet hit the outlaw, leaving him critically injured. He succumbed to his injuries while being taken to a health facility,” district police officer Shafiullah Khan Gandapur claimed while talking to reporters.

He said the notorious criminal, Mohammad Adil alias Kaka, had fled to his hideout after killing two people and seriously injuring three others, including a woman, in Timber Khatta area.

“Our team headed by DSP Baffa Sadaqat Nisar and including SHO Khaki Asim Bukhari followed him and raided his hideout where he and his accomplices opened fire on the police,” Mr Gandapur said.

The DPO claimed that police rushed the outlaw to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital after he sustained gunshot wounds, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

He said that the slain outlaw was a symbol of terror in the area and that the raiding team had also seized arms and ammunition from his hideout.

Meanwhile, the bodies of Mohammad Qasim and his cousin Mohammad Waqar, who were killed by the slain proclaimed offender, were handed over to their families after medico-legal formalities at King Abdullah Teaching Hospital.

Qasim’s wife and two other family members, who were injured in the firing, were referred to Ayub Medical Complex Hospital, Abbottabad.
