Three suspects shot dead in ‘encounters’

KARACHI: Three suspected robbers were shot dead in two separate encounters in the city early on Sunday morning.

Kalri police claimed that the encounter took place on Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Road where after an exchange of firing, two suspects namely Mohammed Mubashir and Muneer Ahmed were killed. Two pistols, as many snatched cell phones and one motorcycle were recovered from them.

The police said the exchange of firing took place during patrolling. The bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

In another incident in Shah Latif Town, one suspect was gunned down while another injured besides three passersby.

The police said the dead was identified as Maaz, his accomplice as Kamran and the three passersby as Faisal Qadeer, Shoaib Raza and Sher Baz.

A police spokesperson said that a police patrol near Quaidabad signalled two suspects riding a motorcycle to stop. But they accelerated the speed and resorted to firing in a bid to flee.

The police chased them and in an ensuing exchange of firing, one suspect was killed while another arrested, said Malir SSP Kashif Abbasi.

He added that the suspects were looting citizens in the area.

The citizens were injured in the firing carried out by the suspects, claimed the officer, adding that their condition was out of danger.
