BAGHDAD: Important religious leaders of Iraq have protested to the President of Bharat, against the persecutions of Muslims in West Bengal. Mr Asim Al-Gallani, Naqibal Ashraf [via] telegram: “It pains us to hear of continuous aggression against life and property of Bharat Muslims at a time when world statesmen are preaching principles of justice and security of human rights. These atrocities, which cannot be tolerated, denote absence of security for Bharat Muslims. We … appeal to your Government to stop persecution of Muslims and institute enquiries to punish people responsible for this savagery.”

Mr Amjad Al Zahhawi, President, Muslim Brotherhood Society of Baghdad … cabled… : “… persecution and extermination of Muslims in West Bengal has overwhelmed Iraqis … . It is in Bharat’s interest to stop persecution which has undermined Muslim security. A State cannot live on oppression. The Muslim Brotherhood Association in Iraq … appeals to you to abide by justice and stop these atrocities of our brethren.”

Mr Jala Al-Hanafi, President of the Religious and Social Services Society, Baghdad … cable[d]: “Muslim persecution in West Bengal is a proof of Hindus’ prejudice against Muslims. …”
