ISLAMABAD: A division bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday sought all records and rules regarding the alleged illegal promotion of Deputy Director General of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Shahid Islam.

IHC division bench comprising Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani and Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan also summoned the Director of Human Resources of the PSB on the next date of hearing.

During the proceedings on an intra-court appeal against the court’s earlier decision, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani expressed displeasure over the lack of preparation by the appellant’s lawyer.

“Think about our fast and yours. Is the applicant still in service?” the judge questioned. The lawyer responded that Shahid Islam was still holding the position of Deputy Director General.

Justice Kayani reminded that a decision against the applicant had already been made in 2020. He further criticised the Pakistan Sports Board’s handling of the matter, stating, “Has the Pakistan Sports Board institution died? Has the government abandoned routine work?”

The court has adjourned the hearing until the second week of May while directing the authorities to submit all relevant records.

DDG Shahid Isalam is working on the current position because of an interim order of the IHC since 2020.

IHC single member bench on Sept 30, 2020 has demoted him to the post of deputy director.

The division bench of the IHC on December 10, 2020 issued stay order till next hearing enabling him to retain the present post.
