KARACHI: Model-turned-actor Nadia Hussain on Monday appeared before the Cyber Crime Reporting Centre of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) along with her lawyer in connection with a complaint lodged against her by an FIA official pertaining to bribery charges.

The agency had summoned the actor after she levelled bribery allegations against a senior official of the FIA following the arrest of her husband, Atif Khan, in an alleged fraud case. She alleged that the caller had demanded Rs30 million from her and told her that her husband would get a bail thereafter.

Talking to the media after recording her statement before investigators on Monday, Ms Hussain said her intention was not to disrepute or humiliate anyone when she shared details of an imposter who was impersonating an FIA official, adding that she simply wanted the scammer to face justice. “I did not intend to deliberately target FIA officials but wanted to expose the imposter,” she said.

The FIA team had also seized her cell phone on March 14 for investigation purposes. She told the media that the forensic of her cell phone was not completed so far and until that is done, her phone would remain in the FIA custody. However, she said she was fully cooperating and did not have any problem with this.

“I want an effective action against the imposter,” demanded the actor, adding that such scammer cause immeasurable inconvenience to the people.

Meanwhile, in a social media post, the actor had also said she would approach National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) officials and inquire about how her family members’ phone numbers were available so easily to people.

However, Nadra clarified on Monday that its function is to maintain the national database of computerised national identity cards, adding that it did not have any record of citizens’ phone numbers.
