BAHAWALPUR: Dunyapur Saddar police (Lodhran) claimed on Tuesday to have arrested a woman selling toxic liquor while sitting on a canal bank at village 281/WB.

According to police PRO, on a tip off, a team conducted a raid and arrested Zubaida Bibi. The liquor weighing about 27 litres in her can was also seized. After arrest she was taken to police station where a first information report under Prohibition Ordinance was registered against her and she was lodged in the lock-up.

Meanwhile, Kahror Pacca Additional District and Sessions Judge Umar Farooq Awan sentenced a drug trafficker, Muhammad Rafique, to nine-year imprisonment along with a fine of Rs200,000 and he would serve a six-month additional jail term in case of default.

He was arrested by Kahror Pacca Saddar police on July 21, 2023, and police after recovery of 1,480 gram charas had submitted his challan to the court.

BWMC: The Bahawalpur Waste Management Company (BWMC) has added new machinery to its existing fleet to what the company’s CEO Naeem Akhtar termed making the CM’s Suthra Punjab campaign a complete success.

According to the CEO, the new machinery included 700 small containers, 200 handcarts, 34 loader rickshaws and 25 big containers which would be used in the city’s 21 union councils to collect waste and garbage.

The new machinery was displayed at craft bazaar premises, where Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Malik Zaheer Iqbal Channar inaugurated it saying that PML-N and its leaders always attached top priority to the people’s welfare.

He expressed the hope that with the inclusion of this new machinery in the BWMC’s existing fleet, the standard of sanitation and cleanliness in city UCs would improve to the satisfaction of the local residents.
