HARIPUR: The social welfare department on Tuesday distributed the cheques of financial assistance among the persons with disabilities (PWDs) from Haripur tehsil.

Former provincial minister and MPA Akbar Ayub Khan was the guest of honour during the cheque distribution ceremony where additional deputy commissioner (human rights )Qamar Zia Malik, officials of the social welfare and special education department, and social activists were also in attendance.

District officer (social welfare) Sana Iqbal said under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s Rs370 million Financial Assistance Programme to support PWDs in the province, the Haripur social welfare department had received 350 applications from those special persons belonging to Haripur tehsil who all were declared eligible for the cash handouts under the criteria set by the government.

She added that each PWD received Rs10,000 as financial assistance.

On the occasion, PTI MPA Akbar Ayub Khan said that in line with the vision of PTI founder Imran Khan, the provincial government was making all possible efforts to provide the maximum possible relief to the deserving people, especially PWDs.

He said that it was the provincial government’s responsibility to take care of the destitute and helpless people, so it was committed to providing support to every person of the vulnerable group, including persons with abilities under a comprehensive strategy.
