RIGHTFUL COMPENSATION: This is with reference to the letter ‘Dissatisfied customer’ (March 11), which was actually in reply to my letter ‘Banking woes’ (March 1). The writer has unfortunately misinterpreted my words. The bank apparently accessed my account knowing that I was old and sick, withdrew the money, and then restored it after using it. They manipulated these transactions so that they may not appear on the account statement. The bank immediately issued a cashier’s cheque for the balance, but never apologised. I am approaching the State Bank of Pakistan complaint cell, and believe that the bank concerned should compensate me for the mental agony it has caused, and for false statements.

LANDMARK JUDGMENT: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has given a decision upholding the plea of a mother of a child, and ordered the biological father to pay monthly expenses to the mother of his biological child even in the absence of a matrimonial contract between the two adults. Such decisions will make more men think seriously before indulging in extramarital indiscretions.

CAGED ANIMALS: Animals are locked up in cages for life without any fault. They are God’s creatures, like human beings, who deserve free movement. Their place is not in the zoo. The authorities must take care of the animals and provide them a safe place for free movement.

DEARTH OF LIBRARIES: The insu-fficient number of libraries in Larkana paints a bleak picture and raises concerns about the priorities of the city administration. Currently, Larkana has only one public library which attracts students from far and wide. This makes it excessively crowded. The lack of an effective administrative setup exacerbates the situation. The government should establish more libraries in Larkana.
