BAHAWALNAGAR: Mandi Sadiq Ganj police claimed on Friday to have arrested a man, who was booked on the charge of throwing acid on his wife on Thursday.

The FIR says Shagufta Bibi of Chak Madrassa married Anwar of Islampura, Mandi Sadiq Ganj, and the couple had a 6-year-old son.

It further says that Anwar would frequently beat his wife, and on March 18, during an argument over a minor issue, the suspect threatened to divorce the woman and threw acid at her.

However, police sources claim that initial investigation showed the acid attack allegations seem to be fabricated.

They say that the suspect claims the burn marks on the woman’s face were about seven years old when she had accidentally fallen on burning coals.

They say that three days before the registration of the FIR, the suspect had divorced the woman.

On the other hand, the woman claimed that she suffered an acid attack on March 18, but family elders intervened and stopped her from immediately reporting the matter to police.

WOMAN SENTENCED: A local court found a woman guilty of narcotics trafficking on Friday and sentenced her to 10-year imprisonment, besides imposing Rs200,000 fine on her.

The convict, Shabnam was arrested by Chishtian B Division police in October last year and recovered 1,180 grams of heroin from her possession.

A case was registered against her under Section 9-C of the Control of Narcotics Substance Act 1997.

Additional Sessions Judge Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhry, after hearing the arguments from both sides, announced a guilty verdict against the woman.

The court ordered that in case of the convict failing to pay the fine, she would have to undergo another two-month imprisonment.
