TikToker held on blasphemy charges in Muzaffargarh

LAHORE: A female TikToker was arrested on allegations of blasphemy by the Bait Mir Hazar police in Muzaffargarh district.

Though it happened two days ago, the news of arrest went public on Friday after a complaint was filed by a local who accused the woman of posting derogatory content on social media.

A resident of Jatoi tehsil, the accused used offensive language in a video shared on her TikTok status, which was brought to the attention of the police by the complainant and two other individuals.

The police registered a case against her under Sections 295-A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 298-A (Uttering words with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). She was subsequently arrested.

According to the FIR available with Dawn, the complainants recorded the TikToker’s status and presented it as evidence to the police.

District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Rizwan Ahmad Khan said the woman was arrested two days ago and she was sent to jail on judicial remand on Friday.
