KARACHI: A fire broke out in a high-rise located on Sharea Faisal near Baloch Colony flyover on Friday, police and rescue services officials said.
They added that the blaze was controlled by seven fire tenders after hectic efforts lasting for several hours. No one was reported injured. However, 10 people, who were initially sent to the roof of the multistorey building, were rescued.
The Tipu Sultan police said the fire broke out due to a short circuit in Kawish Crown Plaza.
Rescue-1122 official Hassaan Khan told Dawn that the fire erupted in a generator on the second floor. It engulfed the diesel tank and parking area as it spread through wiring.
The building was filled with smoke, prompting them to initially move 10 office-goers to the roof of the building, from where they were rescued.
The officer said that fire tenders faced immense difficulties because smoke was trapped in the building as there was no ventilation.
The SHO said seven fire tenders managed to control the blaze after four hours. However, cooling work continued till evening.
Mr Khan said there were no fire safety measures in the five-storey building.
