QUETTA: Four police personnel were martyred in an armed attack in Noshki district, about 170km from the provincial capital, on Saturday night.

Officials said unknown assailants ambushed a police mobile that was patrolling the Gharibabad area of Noshki, killing all four policemen in the vehicle.

The officials said armed men on motorbikes opened fire on the police van from both sides using automatic weapons. Soon after receiving information about the attack, security forces rushed to the scene and shifted the bodies to the district hospital.

“All four police personnel sustained multiple bullet injuries and succumbed to their wounds on the spot,” said a senior police officer.

The deceased were identified as head constable Nazeer Ahmed and constables Manzoor Ahmed, Abdul Karim and Abdul Qahir, who hailed from different areas of Noshki.

Officials said that security forces had launched a search operation in the area to track down the assailants. No group claimed responsibility for the attack till late in the night.
