MUZAFFARGARH: A senior journalist was arrested by City police on charges of extortion complaint of district accounts officer in Muzaffargarh.

According to first information report, Muhammad Usman Khattak, a reporter working with an Urdu newspaper, was arrested by police on complaint of District Accounts Officer Muhammad Nadeem who alleged that Usman demanded extortion from him when his family friends came to see him in Muzaffargarh in 2024.

He added that the journalist blackmailed him and alleged that his family friends had close relationships with banned outfits.

The officer claimed that the journalist demanded money from him many times.

The FIR said that when the officer refused to give extortion, the journalist took Rs50,000 from him at gunpoint.

The City police registered a case against him and arrested the journalist.

The DSP City said he was looking into the matter.
