KOHAT: A worker from Shangla district was buried alive when a coal mine caved in in Akhoral area of Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision here the other day.

The mines and minerals department said it received an emergency call from the control room about the mine incident, after which a medical ambulance and a disaster management team was rushed to the site.

After a long operation, body of a miner was recovered and shifted to a local hospital, and then sent to his native district.

The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam, a resident of Shangla district.

An official said that miners must follow the safety measures issued by the mangers of each mine, and erect a strong door so that the rescuers could enter the mine easily in case of disasters, and save lives.

He said that the poor families sent their children for mining to earn bread and butter, which was illegal.
