KARACHI: A local leader of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) was gunned down in a suspected targeted attack in Orangi Town, police and the party said.

They added that Maulana Sher Zada, 36, was shot by unknown suspects for unknown reason while he was heading to lead the Fajr prayer at a local mosque in the area. He suffered critical bullet wounds on his head and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

A statement issued by the JUI-F said the deceased was an active member of the party and deputy amir of UC-4 in Mominabad Town, and that he had had no enmity with anyone.

Manghopir SHO Imran Ahmed Khan said the victim was a “faith healer” in the area and a prayer leader of the mosque. He hinted at the possibility that the incident might be linked with his “faith healing activities.”
