PESHAWAR: Peshawar district and sessions judge Inamullah Wazir on Thursday visited Peshawar central prison along with a judicial magistrate and ordered release of 69 prisoners after disposing of their cases.
The district judge conducted visit in accordance with the directives issued by Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Syed Mohammad Attique Shah, who had asked all the district judges to conduct visits to prisons in their respective jurisdiction along with magistrates for disposal of petty nature cases ahead of the upcoming Eidul Fitr.
The district judge was accompanied by senior civil judge (administration) Imranullah Khan and judicial magistrate Mohammad Anwar.
They heard petty nature cases there and disposed of 69 of the cases and ordered to set free the prisoners charged therein.
The district judge said that these prisoners would be able to celebrate the festival of Eid with their family members.
The district judge also inspected different portions of the prison. During his visit to the women barracks he heard problems faced by them. He also distributed Eidi among the children accompanying some female prisoners.
During his visit to the prison hospital and medicine store, he directed the prison authorities to ensure availability of life saving drugs there. He also went through the laboratory for testing prisoners for HIV and other diseases.
The district judge inspected the section set up for meeting of prisoners with their family members through video link.
He also directed the prison officials to improve sanitation situation there.
