MUZAFFARGARH: A student of the Govt College of Technology, Rakh Khanpur, was arrested on charge of blasphemy for insulting a companion of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) while another man was arrested for making the video of him and posting it on social media.

According to the first information report (FIR), seen by Dawn, Civil Lines police learnt that a student had insulted the companion of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). A man, identified in the FIR, a resident of Rajanpur, had made a video of the student and posted it on social media. A mob gathered and surrounded the boy.

Civil Lines police reached the spot, rescued him from the mob and shifted him to the police station. Police registered a case against him under Section 298-A (disrespecting the wives, family and companions of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The man who made his video and posted it on social media was also taken into custody. District Police Officer Dr Muhammad Rizwan said he formed a team under DSP City Tahir Ijaz who was looking into the matter.

The DSP said the suspect was from Rajanpur district but he was instigated to give a statement against a companion of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). According to the initial inquiry, the officer added, the student was innocent and the man who had instigated him and made his video had also been arrested.

It is the second reported case of blasphemy in the Muzaffargarh district in recent days as a TikToker woman was earlier arrested on charge of blasphemy.
