The Mehta Boys (2025)

The Mehta Boys marks the directorial debut of acclaimed actor Boman Irani. This Hindi-language drama delves into the intricate dynamics of a father-son relationship, set against the backdrop of contemporary Mumbai.

The film follows Amay Mehta (Avinash Tiwary), a dedicated architect striving to make his mark in Mumbai’s competitive landscape. Following the death of his mother, Amay is compelled to spend 48 hours with his estranged father, Shiv Mehta (Boman Irani).

This enforced proximity unravels years of unresolved tensions, leading both to confront their past grievances and misunderstandings. The narrative intricately weaves themes of familial duty, personal ambition, and the quest for reconciliation.

Coming to the performances, Boman Irani as Shiv Mehta and Avinash Tiwary as Amay Mehta give very nuanced performances, one as a father grieving loss and trying to connect with his estranged son, and the other as a son harbouring years of hurt, finally having to confront that and his own disappointments while being caught between professional aspirations and familial obligations.

As the Eid festivities start and the food coma sets in, what better way to unwind than with a line-up of fresh, engaging stories from Amazon Prime…

The film has garnered positive reviews for its authentic portrayal of complex family relationships. Critics have lauded Irani’s directorial approach and the compelling performances of the cast. Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express noted, “In all the duds that Bollywood is serving up these days, The Mehta Boys, which looks at daddy issues with understanding and empathy, and the things that make relationships tick, and stick, is well worth your time.”

Picture This (2025)

Featured on Amazon Prime, and starring Simone Ashley (of Bridgerton fame), Picture This is a romantic comedy that intertwines art and love, set in the vibrant city of Delhi.

The story centers on Ananya (Simone Ashley), a passionate photographer, and Kabir, a budding painter. Their chance encounter at an art exhibition sparks a journey of self-discovery and romance, as they collaborate on a project that challenges their perspectives on life and love.

There is palpable chemistry between the protagonists that adds depth to the romantic narrative. It also features beautiful cinematography, highlighting Delhi’s historical sites and vibrant city life. And Simone Ashley is absolutely exquisite in it. The film offers a lighthearted narrative that’s perfect for watching with family over Eid.

Dupahiya (2025)

This one had me rolling in laughter throughout the series. Dupahiya is an Indian Hindi language comedy series that brings to life the quirks and charms of rural India.

The narrative unfolds in the fictional village of Dhadakpur, renowned for its 25-year streak without any reported crimes. This harmonious existence is disrupted when a prized motorbike, intended as a wedding gift, mysteriously disappears, setting off a chain of comedic events.

As Dhadakpur gears up to celebrate its crime-free milestone, the sudden theft of a unique motorbike throws the village into disarray. The motorbike, a symbol of pride and a pivotal element of an upcoming wedding, becomes the focal point of a frantic search. The series humorously explores the lengths to which the villagers go to retrieve the bike, shedding light on their aspirations, relationships, and the societal fabric of small-town India.

The actors in the series have truly given their best. There is Gajraj Rao as Banwari Jha, a loving but hapless father who just wants the best for his daughter. Portraying a pivotal role, he brings his signature comedic timing and depth to the series.

Sparsh Shrivastava as Bhugol, Banwari’s son and enthusiastic influencer has really outdone himself in portraying a young man with big dreams, stuck in a small village and who just wants to be famous. He’s not the brightest cookie in the jar, but he’s got a lot of heart. One instantly recognises him from the pivotal role he played in the critically acclaimed Laapata Ladies (2023).

And of course, seasoned actress with a number of stellar performances under her belt, Shivani Raghuvanshi as Roshni Jha — who just wants to marry ‘up’ and leave the village — does not disappoint.
