LAKKI MARWAT: Police repelled an attack on Dadiwala police station in Kurrum Par area of Lakki Marwat district on Thursday night, an official said on Friday.

He said terrorists attacked the police station with light and heavy weapons in a bid to seize the building, but the cops deployed there retaliated effectively.

The official said policemen were fully alert as they had noticed the movement of assailants with the help of modern technology.

“After an exchange of fire, the attackers fled the place as they could not face and counter the strong and effective response of law enforcers,” he added.

The official said all policemen remained safe in the gun battle.

Meanwhile, the district administrations of Lakki Marwat and Karak have banned display of weapons, festive firing, wheelie and swimming in rivers, dams and canals in order to avert any untoward incident during the Eid days.

Officials said on Friday Lakki deputy commissioner Zeeshan Abdullah imposed restrictions for 10 days, while in Karak, the ban was imposed by DC Shakil Ahmad Jan for a period of 15 days. The officials said the use of firecrackers had also been banned in both districts for the safety of the general public.

“Other restrictions imposed in Lakki include pillion riding, over-speeding, riding without helmets, plying of unregistered bikes and vehicles and use of tinted glass in vehicles,” they said.

They said that fishing and boating was also banned in all dams across Karak district, adding that the violators would be dealt with under relevant sections of law.

Meanwhile, the police have set up additional checkposts and increased patrolling on roads in Lakki Marwat under the Eid security plan.

An official said special checkpoints had been established on entry and exit points with instructions for the cops deployed there to remain vigilant and ensure checking of suspected individuals and motorists.

He said a traffic plan had also been formulated for Eid days to avoid traffic congestion. He said arrangements had been made for security of important and sensitive installations, mosques, Eidgahs, commercial and business places and bazaars.

The official said policemen in civvies would also be deployed at important places and busy bazaars to keep an eye on movement of suspects and anti-social elements.
