KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Saturday remanded a driver and his helper to prison in a case pertaining to the death of a young couple and their newborn baby in a traffic accident.

Police had booked and arrested water tanker driver Rahim Badshah and his helper Umer Waqas as their vehicle had knocked down motorcyclist Abdul Qayyum, his full-term pregnant wife Zainab in Malir Halt on March 25 when they were on their way for a medical checkup of the woman.

The severely injured woman gave birth to a baby boy shortly after the incident on the road, but the infant, as well as the couple, could not survive.

After the end of their three-day physical remand, the investigating officer (IO) again produced the suspects before a judicial magistrate (East) and sought an extension in their physical remand for further investigation.

The IO submitted that the water tanker was registered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and owner of the vehicle was abroad while police were also trying to collect more CCTV footage of the incident near the crime scene.
