AS a student in Lahore, I have witnessed firsthand the lackadaisical attitude towards research at the University of Punjab. Researchers often approach students to fill out questionnaires, only to be met with reluctance. When persuaded, the students fill out the questionnaires without serious attention, which produces research that lacks authenticity.

Pakistan ranks second, behind Saudi Arabia, in terms of research misconduct. Students prioritise completing their degree requirements over conducting meaningful research. We should address the issue and foster a research environment that values originality and rigour. Our universities must provide students with the skills they need to conduct high-quality research.
