RAWALPINDI: The Motorway police have said they continued their crackdown against transporters charging excessive fares across Pakistan and returned Rs47.27 million collected as excess fare to the public.
A spokesman for the Motorway police said on Sunday that in addition, the police imposed a cumulative fine of over Rs23.4 million on vehicle owners for overloading.
“In view of the increasing hustle on the occasion of Eid, additional Motorway police personnel have also been deployed. Passengers can lodge complaints against overloading and overcharging through the Motorway police’s helpline,” said the spokesman.
As part of the public awareness drive, road safety messages were aired through various media platforms, he said.
Road safety messages and gifts are also being distributed at toll plazas, he added.
“Drivers using personal vehicles should take precautions to make their journeys safe and comfortable. Before starting the journey, check the vehicle’s engine oil, water, tyre pressure and brakes,” the spokesman said.
He said that while driving, use seat belts, adhere to the speed limit, keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front and keep to the lane and line.
“It is important for the driver to be completely refreshed before a long journey and to take some rest after two to two and a half hours of driving. Never drive while sleepy or drowsy.”
The spokesman said that in case of any emergency, the Motorway police can be contacted at 130.
