KARACHI: A three-year-old boy drowned after he fell in an uncovered manhole in Mowach Goth on Wednesday evening, triggering protest by relatives and residents against negligence of authorities concerned.

Moachko police said that the boy, Abdul Rehman, 3, fell in an open manhole in Noor Shah Mohalla. Area residents rushed to rescue the child but he had died when his body was recovered.

The incident angered the people who, carrying the coffin of the deceased, staged protest on main Hub River Road.

The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

Many hurt as bus overturns

Over half a dozen people suffered injuries when a fast-moving bus overturned on Sharea Faisal near the Drigh Colony Railway Station, rescue workers reported on Wednesday, adds APP.

They said that the injured were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment.

Meanwhile, police have arrested four suspects allegedly involved in street crimes and drug trafficking and recovered three pistols and 700 grams of hashish from their possession.
