Karachi: A reckless trailer driver ran over and killed a young man near Port Qasim on Thursday evening, police and rescue services officials said.

Shah Latif Town SHO Mohammed Ameen Khoso told Dawn that Moharram Ali, 25, was on his bike when the trailer hit and ran over him at Port Qasim Chowrangi.

He suffered critical injuries and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said the deceased had sustained extensive “crush injuries” to his head and upper torso. SHO Khoso said the errant driver, Rustam Ali, was arrested and the heavy vehicle impounded.
