BAHAWALPUR: Gailiwala police in Lodhran district claimed to have solved the mystery surrounding the murder of a divorced woman, arresting her three brothers for allegedly killing her for “honour.”

At a press conference on Thursday, DSP Khalid Javed Joyia said three brothers -- Aamir, Afzal and Feroze -- had suspicions about the character of their sister Nasim Bibi, who after seeking divorce twice was living with her sister Tasleem Bibi.

The suspects took their sister’s conduct as a blot on their “honour” and planned to kill her.

According to the DSP, on June 15, 2024, the eldest brother Aamir took Nasim Bibi along on his motorcycle on the pretext of visiting their brother Feroze.

Later, the three brothers allegedly strangled Nasim Bibi to death and buried her in the fields.

After some days, when the victim’s sister Tasleem Bibi asked Aamir about Nasim’s whereabouts, he told her that she might have “eloped” with someone.

Tasleem Bibi developed suspicion and filed a complaint with the police, getting registered a murder case against the prime suspect, Aamir.

The DSP said that despite being interrogated for several days, Aamir, kept denying the charge. He said that later the police also took into custody the two other suspects, who during interrogation, admitted to have killed their sister. On their identification, the police also recovered her body from the fields.

In the light of their confessional statement, the three suspects were booked under abduction and murder charges.

The postmortem examination report of the body confirmed that Nasim was strangled to death. The DSP added that now, after completion of the legal formalities, the case’s challan will be submitted in the court.

GANGS BUSTED: Jallah Arian police in Lodhran district claimed to have smashed two gangs of cattle thieves and robbers and arrested their ringleaders, along with their six accomplices.

As per the police, the arrested ringleaders were identified as Asad and Abdul Malik.

Police recovered from snatched/stolen motorcycles, cattle heads and valuables from the arrested criminals.

The police claimed that the recovered items would be returned to their owners.
