KARACHI: Citizens endured another hot day on Saturday with mercury soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in Karachi and other parts of the province under the influence of a ‘heat-low’ affecting the region.

According to the Met department’s data, the areas of Gulistan-i-Johar (40.3°C) and Jinnah Terminal (40.2°C) remained hotter than the rest of the city for the second consecutive day.

According to the Met officials, a low pressure area currently prevailing over western Rajasthan, India, is affecting the coastal town of Karachi and other parts of Sindh. They described the phenomenon as a “heat low”, a normal feature in the month of April.

The department’s data showed that the prevailing weather system expanded on Saturday, covering a larger part of the province with mercury soaring to 44°C in Mithi, Shaheed Benazirabad and Dadu; 43°C in Chhor, Tandojam and Hyderabad; 42°C in Sakrand, Mirpurkhas, Mohenjo Daro and Thatta; and 41°C in Larkana, Sukkur, Rohri, Khairpur and Badin.

Officials forecast a hot/very hot and dry weather in most parts of the province till April 8 when a westerly wave is expected to hit country’s upper parts and break the heatwave’s intensity.

In Karachi, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 37°C and 39°C over the next two days.
