LAKKI MARWAT: The police foiled a terror bid by defusing an indigenously made bomb in Wanda Maidali area of Lakki Marwat district on Wednesday.

A police official said that unknown miscreants had planted an explosive device in a room adjacent to a tube well in the remote locality to carry out a subversive act.

He said the police reached the area when villagers informed them about a suspected material dumped inside the room. “The police immediately called out experts of the bomb disposal squad to defuse the bomb weighing 15kg,” he said.

The official said that a plastic drum along with an explosive cord was used to make the home-made device.

In Karak, the police claimed to have destroyed the hideouts of terrorists in difficult mountainous terrains in Bahadarkhel and adjacent rural areas during a daylong operation.

District police officer Shahbaz Elahi led the operation, which aimed to establish permanent and sustainable peace in the district.

An official said that the hideouts established in the mountains were being used by terrorists as safe havens to attack police and other law enforcement agencies and carry out subversive acts.

He said that the policemen equipped with modern weapons and gadgets set fire to the hideouts of terrorists.

The official said that the police were fully determined to provide a safe and peaceful environment to citizens.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief Zulfiqar Hameed lauded the personnel for launching a successful operation against terrorists, and announced commendation certificates and cash prizes for the officers and cops.
