LAKKI MARWAT: The police foiled a sabotage bid by defusing a bomb in Serai Gambila Town of Lakki Marwat district on Friday.

An official said a police party cordoned off the area and called out experts of the bomb disposal squad when they received information about the planting of a bomb by miscreants under Kot Kashmir Bridge.

He said BDS experts defused the remote-controlled bomb made of an empty mortar shell container, batteries and explosive cord,” he claimed.

Meanwhile, the police destroyed poppy crop in Gazgoba and Tajbikhel areas of Bettani subdivision on Friday.

“The operation was launched on the directives of district police officer Muhammad Jawad Ishaq,” an official said.

He said the growers cultivated the crop on a small tract of land, which was destroyed.

IMPERSONATOR HELD: Police on Friday arrested an impersonator at a matriculation examination centre set up by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Bannu, at Government Higher Secondary School, Shahbazkhel, in Lakki Marwat.

Police said Jawad, a resident of Sarga Khairukhel, was posing as a candidate to the Pakistan Studies paper in place of Mohammad Roman.

They said Roman was a proclaimed offender wanted in murder, attempted murder and kidnapping cases.

The examination centre’s superintendent Mohammad Wajid told Shahbazkhel police he had forwarded the impersonation case to the relevant authorities of the educational board.

A police official said a case had been registered against him.

ENROLMENT: On the instructions of Lakki district education officer Shaukat Ali Khan, separate walks were held in Bilankhel and Wanda Banochi areas of Ghaznikhel tehsil on Friday to raise awareness about the children’s enrolment to schools.

The participants included teachers and students carrying banners, placards and posters highlighting messages about the importance of school enrolment drive.

At the culmination of walks, the teachers went door-to-door, met with parents and sensitised them to enrolment of their children.

Sub-divisional education officer Qadeer Shah told Dawn that the enrolment drive was going on with full swing in the entire tehsil.

He said the school-based targets had been set and the schools’ bosses and teachers had been directed to ensure admission of the targeted children.

District education officer Shoukat Ali directed teachers to cooperate with parents visiting schools in connection with the admission of their children.
