SARGODHA: A 22-year-old under-training police constable, arrested for kidnapping and raping a girl, allegedly died by suicide while in police custody in Bhera town on Friday.

According to sources, the constable was arrested after a case was registered against him in connection with the abduction and rape of the girl.

He was to be taken for a DNA test on Friday when he reportedly slit his throat with a blade. He was shifted to Bhera THQ Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

Police claimed a suicide note was found on him and taken into custody.

The body was handed over to the family after postmortem.

LIGHTNING: A 53-year-old labourer, Omar Hayat, died after being struck by lightning during a thunderstorm in Chak 144/145-NB, Sillanwali, on Thursday night.

The storm brought heavy winds and rainfall to Sargodha and adjoining areas, turning the weather pleasant.

KILLED: Armed men on a motorcycle opened fire on a young man named Owais, a resident of Mohalla Khokhranwala of Bhera, seriously injuring him.

He was taken to the Bhera Tehsil Headquarters Hospital while police started investigation into the incident.

RAID: The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) task force in Amin Bazaar Block 1, Bhalwal, raided a place and arrested a trader allegedly stealing electricity.

Ajmal Rafique Athar, who claimed to be a business community leader, was booked on the complaint of the Fesco sub-divisional officer.

SENTENCED: The Sargodha additional district and sessions judge sentenced a drug trafficker to a combined punishment of 45-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs2.3 million.

According to police, Ali Suleman was arrested on May 14, 2023, with 10kg of heroin and 10kg of opium in the factory area.

The court handed him down life imprisonment with a Rs1.5m fine for the heroin seizure and 20-year rigorous imprisonment with a Rs1.8m fine for the opium recovery.
