SUKKUR: A couple and their teenage son were gunned down by a group of clansmen “to avenge the 2015 murder of a man and his wife in a land dispute” near Gambat town of Khairpur district on late Monday evening.

A clansman, Sattar Korai, uploaded his video message on the social media claiming that he avenged the murder of his brother Ilyas Korai and sister 10 years ago by killing Nadir Ali Korai, his wife and son.

His statement came hours after a group of armed clansmen broke into a house in Raees Punhal Khan Korai village and gunned down Nadir Korai, 58, and his wife, Zubaida Khatoon, 52.

The couple’s daughters, Raheema, 6, and Faiza, 12, were wounded in the attack.

The assailants kidnapped the couple’s teenage son, Lal Bakhsh alias Fayyaz, a university student, and also shot him dead at some distance from the village.

Residents of the neighbourhood told the media that the assailants used a boat to flee the village by crossing the Indus River.

Nadir’s brother, Ayaz Korai, told the media that Sattar was being persuaded to get the land and blood dispute settled through mediation, but he did not appear to be ready to accept a settlement.

However, Sattar in his video message claimed that for years, the rival side had been paying no heed to his demand of taking the matter to a Jirga for a settlement.
