SOFT SKILLS: Unlike earlier times when the pursuit of knowledge was the primary goal, the greatest challenge for modern man, particularly in this age of artificial intelligence (AI), is managing the overwhelming influx of information. This challenge can be effectively overcome through soft skills. These include the ability to critically evaluate, filter and manage relevant information, as well as to communicate, collaborate and adapt in diverse settings. Soft skills enable individuals to make informed decisions and add real value to their lives. Therefore, the education system should focus on developing and polishing soft skills in students because soft skills are a prerequisite of the age we are living in.

TRAGIC CELEBRATION: Whether it is the birth of a child, a wedding, or any joyous occasion, aerial firing has become a rather dangerous tradition in our society. Unfortunately, a 13-year-old boy lost his life recently due to aerial firing at a wedding reception in Musakhail district. How long will this hazardous practice continue? The government should impose a strict ban on aerial firing and give exemplary punishment to those involved in such an act. Public awareness campaigns should also be launched to educate the masses about the risks of aerial firing.

MORE CHARGES: It is not under- standable why K-Electric (KE) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) have imposed fixed monthly charges — Rs1,000 and Rs400, respectively — and that, too, without any prior intimation to the consumers. Apart from these entities, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) have also started collecting charges on a monthly basis. Since the consumers pay energy charges and other taxes, these fixed charges appear to be highly unjustified as well as a burden on them. This practice must come to an end immediately.
