WORRISOME MESSAGE: Pakistan has long been plagued by terrorism and religious extremism. Our involvement in conflicts in Afghanistan has been one of the major causes behind the continuing wave of terrorism in the country. I recently saw a man in a local mosque who claimed to have come from Afghanistan ‘with a message about the significance of jihad’. I wondered which jihad the man was talking about when Taliban themselves happen to be ruling Afghanistan. The presence of such a dubious person in our mosques is extremely worrisome.

FREE WATER: This is with reference to the report ‘Karachi hit by another water crisis as many areas go dry for five days’ (April 10). Whenever such a tragedy strikes, people have no choice but to arrange water tankers to fulfil their water needs. It is the duty of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) to have water delivered through tankers to the affected areas free of charge. What do the people pay the water taxes for?

SINDH NEEDS DENTISTS: More than 2,000 post are lying vacant in Sindh hospitals where only about 400 dentists are currently working in the public health sector. There is a serious shortage of dentists in more or less all hospitals across the province. The authorities concerned should immediately start the process to fill all the vacant posts for dentists through the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC).

FACILITATION CENTRES: Facilitation centres in the universities are meant to provide basic facilities to the students, but they just seem to extract money from them. An ordinary pen outside the university can be bought for Rs30 compared to Rs60 at the so-called facilitation centre inside the university. The university administrations do not show any interest in facilitating the students and easing their many woes.
