DADU, May 6: The executive engineer of the Sindh irrigation department, southern region, Mr Shafqat Wadho, has said that water in the Dadu canal and Johi branch will be released on May 10.
Talking to reporters on Friday, he said that desilting of the Dadu canal had been initiated to reduce 56 per cent water shortage at the tail of the canal.
He said that the desilting would be done from the Wadho regulator to the RD-615 at a cost of Rs120 million.
He said that tail-end farmers would get their share of water in the Kharif season.
He said that desilting of the Johi branch was also started at a cost of Rs15 million.
He said that 480,000 acres of land was cultivable at tail-end of the Dadu canal.
He said that this was first time that desilting programme was launched in the canal.
