THATTA, May 8: Scores of people took to streets in Makli town on Sunday and blocked National Highway in protest against acute shortage of drinking water. The protesters led by Ali Akbar, Mushtaq and Jan Mohammad said they had not received even a drop of water since three weeks and were left with no other option but to protest.

As the blockade prolonged, DSP headquarters rushed to the scene and persuaded the protesters to end their protest making a personal assurance that he would help resolve their problem.

Residents of Mirpur Bathoro too face similar situation.

The only reservoir they receive water from has dried up since a month after Fateh Wah stopped releasing water to it.

Official sources say Fateh Wah has been closed as the water will hamper the on-going work on the construction of cemented watercourses linked with the tributary.
