KHAIRPUR, May 12: Four people died and 16 others were injured when a Peshawar-bound bus overturned while trying to save a motorcycle near the Aliabad village on the National Highway on Thursday evening.

Motorcyclist Zulfiqar Wassan died on the spot after the bus hit him and the bus conductor, Sher Afzal, two passengers were killed when the bus overturned.

The injured who were rushed to the Rural Health Centre, Ranipur, were identified as Shahmir Wassan, Abdullah, Musaddiq Rehman, Fazal Zaman, Gulzada, Mohammad Naeem, Lal Badshah and Gul Mohammad (all from Peshawar), Ms Zubeda (Naushehra), Kashif, Asma Khatoon and Ms Sumera (Karachi), Shams Rehman and Abdul Razzaq (Charsadda), Ali Anwar (Badin) and Ashiq Qureshi.

A medical officer at the centre said all the injured were discharged of first aid and they left for their homes in the morning.

FIR LODGED: Thari Mirwah police lodged an FIR here on Thursday against 70 growers of the Ali Bahar wah for taking out a procession on Wednesday against shortage of water.

The complainant ASI has stated in the FIR that growers blocked the road near the Pir Wassan bus stop and burnt tyres.
