DADU, May 12: A large number of sugar mills workers and activists of the PPP and the JSQM staged a demonstration on Friday in front of Dadu Sugar Mills to protest against police torture of employees of Dadu and Thatta sugar mills and their family members during a protest rally in Karachi.
The protesters led by Maula Bux Birhamani, Mohammad Ishaque, local leader of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Jabal Sindhi, local leader of Pakistan People’s Party, Shahnawaz Chandio burnt tyres on Sita-Dadu Link Road and blocked traffic for some time.
The leaders complained that Sindh government had not taken any concrete steps to restart Dadu Sugar Mills, and condemned police for torturing employees of Dadu and Thatta sugar mills.
They appealed to the chief justice of the Supreme Court to take notice of the incident.
Another demonstration was staged in Dadu city on a call given by the Awami Ittehad, in which some 300 activists of PPP and JSQM participated.
They condemned Karachi police for torturing the protesting sugar mills employees and their family members. Awami Ittehad Chairman Gul Mohammad Joyo and PPP Taluka President Abdul Karim Mallah led the protest.
