SWABI, May 22: The Teachers Association held a demonstration here on Monday in protest against arrest of the assistant deputy district officer for primary education. The officer, Ali Haider, was arrested in a fraud case one week ago. Sources in the education department told Dawn the officer had been withdrawing salaries of two teachers, who were on leave, for two years.
However, Mr Haider denies involvement in the withdrawal of salaries, the sources say.
They said the two school teachers were in London and in their absence, their salaries were being regularly withdrawn.
They said the issue came to light when some insiders informed officials concerned and a case was registered against Mr Haider.
The protesting teachers demanded immediate release of Mr Haider and said departmental action should be taken against him.—Correspondent
